Admissions

Under the Education Act parents have a right to choose a school for their children. Each school has a ‘standard number’ of places, which is the minimum number of children who should be admitted in any year. Our current published admissions number (PAN) is 30 in Reception up to Year 2, and 30+ in Years 3 to 6.

All admissions to the school will be dealt with by Warwickshire County Council.

The Education Act states that children have to start school by the beginning of the term after they reach the age of five. The Local Authority (LA) Admissions Policy states that children should be admitted at the start of the school year in which they are 5. The Local Authority is the admissions authority for community and controlled schools and is therefore responsible for determining the admission arrangements for our school.

Admission to our school is coordinated centrally by Warwickshire County Council. All parents must fill in a Common Application Form which allows parents to list up to three schools that they would like their child to attend and give the reason for their preference.

The closing date for applications is in January of the year in which your child will start school.

The form is available from: Warwickshire County Council School Admissions (click on the link above).

It must be filled in and returned to Warwickshire County Council School Admissions. The actual closing date and full details of the arrangements are provided in the guide to primary education booklet that accompanies the form.

Appeals Criteria

Where applicants for admission to the school exceed places available, the following criteria will be applied by Warwickshire County Council in the order of priority set out below:

Children in care of, or provided with accommodation by, a local authority and children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order).

  1. Children living in the priority area who have a brother or sister at the school at the time of admission.
  2. Children living in the priority area who have a brother or sister at the partner junior school (or primary school) at the time of admission.
  3. Other children living in the priority area.
  4. Children from outside the priority area who have a brother or sister at the school at the time of admission.
  5. Children living outside the priority area who have a brother or sister at the partner junior school (or primary school) at the time of admission.
  6. Other children from outside the priority area.

All applications received after the normal admissions round, or for an existing year group, will be treated as ‘in year applications’.

Admission Appeals
Warwickshire County Council is the admission authority for St Paul’s C of E Primary School. If your child is refused a place in Reception or in any other year group, you have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel.
Appeals are organised and heard by Warwickshire County Council, not by the school. The Council publishes its appeals timetable each year by 28 February. This sets out the deadline for lodging an appeal (you will always have at least 20 school days from the date of your refusal letter) and when hearings will take place. Details of how to appeal are also included with every refusal letter.
To find out more or to lodge an appeal, please visit Warwickshire County Council’s school appeals page: www.warwickshire.gov.uk/schoolappeals
For information about applying for a school place and Warwickshire’s admission arrangements, visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/admissions
Nursery places: Nursery admissions are managed by the school’s governing board using the criteria in our Admissions Policy. There is no statutory right of appeal for Nursery places. If you are unhappy with a decision, please contact the school office on 024 7638 3323 or admin3106@welearn365.com, and your concern will be considered under our Complaints Policy.
