SEMH Support at St Paul’s C of E Primary School
At St Paul’s, we are deeply committed to nurturing the whole child — emotionally, socially, spiritually, and academically. We understand that children may face a variety of challenges as they grow, and we aim to walk alongside them and their families with care and compassion.
Our Christian vision, that every child will “shine as a light in the world,” is at the heart of everything we do — especially when it comes to supporting well-being.
To support pupils experiencing emotional difficulties, behavioural challenges, or mental health concerns, we offer a broad range of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) interventions. These are designed to build resilience, foster positive relationships, and promote a sense of safety and belonging for every child.
SEMH interventions on offer at St Paul’s:
Flourish Years 5+6
The Flourish Project is an eight-session program delivered by Mrs Hiatt and Mrs Downes, that concentrates on improving mental and emotional wellbeing, increasing self-esteem, and resilience. Flourish enables pupils to realise their full potential. It gives the pupils tools and techniques to equip and empower themselves to believe that they can dream big dreams. https://protonfoundation.com/flourish-project/
Bright Beginnings Years 1+2 and Shine Together Years 3+4
Bright Beginnings and Shine Together are both 6-week interventions delivered by Mrs Downes with guest appearances from Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Hiatt. These interventions support emotional resilience, positive relationships, and school engagement. The purpose is to empower pupils with age-appropriate tools they need to feel safe, valued, and confident at school, while reinforcing key school values and improving attendance and behaviour.
Lego Therapy
Lego-based therapy is an evidence-based approach delivered by Mrs Downes, that aims to develop social communication skills in children, such as sharing, turn-taking, following rules, using names and problem-solving. In LEGO therapy, roles are divided into Engineer (who reads and gives building instructions), Supplier (who finds and hands over the correct pieces), and Builder (who assembles the pieces), each role encouraging collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Shooting Stars
A 4-week intervention supporting emotional wellbeing through faith, creativity, and connection. Shooting Stars is a 4-week intervention designed to support children’s emotional wellbeing, encourage spiritual curiosity, and promote positive values. Delivered in partnership with St Paul’s Church, the programme uses drama, play, and fun activities to explore Bible stories in a way that is relevant to today’s world.
Through this nurturing and inclusive environment, children are reminded of their unique worth and the light they bring to their school and community — encouraging them to truly “shine like stars in the world” (Philippians 2:15).
Pupil Mentor
A pupil mentor is member of our St Paul’s support staff who check in with children at various points to give them an opportunity to discuss anything that may be troubling them. The member of staff will be from a different year group, therefore not somebody who usually places any academic demand on the child. This invites them to develop a supportive relationship with somebody in school they can share their worries with.
Bereavement Support
Sensitive, age-appropriate support following the loss of a loved one, delivered with compassion and care by Mrs Parsons.
Young Carers Group
At St Paul’s, we provide a supportive and understanding environment where Young Carers can share experiences, access helpful resources, and feel truly valued. By working in partnership with St Paul’s Church and Warwickshire Young Carers (Caring Together), we ensure that our pupils receive the time, space, and support they need to thrive both emotionally and academically.
Together, we can ensure that every child shines brightly — in heart, mind, and spirit.
