What is Pupil Premium? 

Each year, the Government gives schools a sum of money to improve the attainment of children.   

Sometimes, children have difficulties with speech and communication; attendance and punctuality; lack of confidence and low self-esteem. The pupil premium is intended to directly benefit the children who are eligible. Could you be eligible for this funding? 

How do I know if I’m eligible?  

Your child will be eligible if you receive any of the following benefits: 

• Universal credit (provided you have a net income of £7400 or less) 

• Income support 

• Income-based jobseekers’ allowance 

• Income-related employment and support allowance 

• Support under Part IV of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 

• The guaranteed element of state pension credit 

• Child tax credit, provided that you are not also entitled to working tax credit and have an annual gross income of £16,190 or less 

Children who are or have been in care, and children who have a parent who is or was in the armed forces, are also entitled to pupil premium. 

    Why should you apply?  

• Free School Dinners. All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 get a Free School Meal anyway. When they move into Year 3, this stops and you will have to pay for the dinners….UNLESS YOU ARE PUPIL PREMIUM. This could be a saving of £438 a year! Don’t get caught out! 

• You will get a discount on school trips and residentials 

• You get support with school uniform  

How else does St Paul’s spend the money? 

• Extra small-group support for children within the classroom. 

• Running catch-up sessions before or after school 

• Running a school before and after school provision (Triangle) to improve attendance. 

• Paying for additional help such as speech and language therapy or family therapy. 

• Investing in resources that boost children’s learning, such as laptops or tablets 

• Read Write Inc to support early reading 

• Reading bus and books for The Reading Hut and classrooms  

• Thrive Approach to support pupil wellbeing   

• Enrichment activities including music, and sports 

• Learning Mentor
