RE Curriculum

From September 2024, Coventry and Warwickshire schools have a new local agreed syllabus. The development of this syllabus is supported by both local authority SACREs and Coventry Diocesan Board of Education. This new agreed syllabus has a worldviews approach to teaching religion and worldviews. This is in keeping with the recommendations of the main RE national bodies, such as NATRE and Culham St Gabriel’s.

Right to Withdraw from Religious Education and Collective Worship
As a Church of England school, Religious Education (RE) and daily collective worship are at the heart of school life at St Paul’s. Our RE follows the Warwickshire and Coventry Agreed Syllabus alongside Understanding Christianity. Pupils learn about Christianity and other major world faiths and beliefs, and many lessons are enriched by visits to places of worship. We hope all our families will value this learning, which helps children understand and respect the beliefs of others, in line with our vision to “Shine Like Stars in the World”.
However, parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE, and from all or part of collective worship. You do not have to give a reason.
If you are thinking about withdrawing your child, please speak to the Headteacher first. This gives us the chance to explain what is taught and to discuss any concerns, as often we can find a way for your child to take part comfortably. Then confirm your decision in writing to the school office.
Children who are withdrawn will be supervised in school while the lesson or act of worship takes place. You can change your decision at any time by letting us know.
To find out what is taught in RE in each year group, please see our RE curriculum overview. If you have any questions, please contact the school office on 024 7638 3323 or admin3106@welearn365.com.
