Our Christian Vision and Values

Shine Like Stars in the World

 Our theologically rooted Christian vision is inspired by two things:

  1. The Bible

The first part of our vision is two verses from St Paul’s letter to the Philippians:

Do all things without murmuring and arguing, so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine like stars in the world. (Philippians 2:14-15)
As well as giving us the phrase “shine like stars in the world” other parts of that verse have relevance for us as a school.
Do all things without murmuring and arguing connects with our role as an ICON school (International Cross of Nails) which aims to equip our children to be peace-makers.
In the midst of a crooked and perverse generation is realistic about the challenges our children face – the world is not perfect! We are helping children to become agents of positive change in a complex world.

 

  2. Baptism

Our vision  is also inspired by the Church of England Baptism Service. At the end of this service, the person who has been baptised is told to:

 “shine as a light in the world to the glory of God the Father”
Baptism has many meanings, but here are some which have relevance to us as a school:
  • It is about beginning a journey of faith – at school, we are encouraging children to begin a journey of learning, growth and discovery
  • It is about belonging to a community or family of faith – at school, we aim to create a warm and supportive community
  • It is about discovering your purpose in life – at school, we aim to support children is discovering their unique qualities, gifts and skills

 

Kindness

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

Trust

Do not let your hearts be troubled, trust in God. John 14:1

Love

Love your neighbour as yourself. Mark 12:31

Courageous

Be strong and courageous, for the Lord Your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

Respect

Treat others as you want to be treated. Luke 6:31
