AT THE HEART OF OUR DT CURRICULUMPrepares them for life
beyond primary education

Our DT sessions are taught through topic- based projects where pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. At St. Paul’s we follow the ‘Design, Make, Evaluate’ approach which is outlined in the National Curriculum Programmes of Study document. Through the evaluation stage of our ‘Plan, Make, Evaluate’ approach, children are encouraged to reflect upon their final products, considering how they could have altered their design or techniques to impact the overall appearance and usability of their product. Throughout this, we aim to provide opportunities for children to exercise their creativity and imagination, problem solving skills and work as part of a team.

THIS YEAR IN DTYou will learn

The Design and Technology curriculum combines skills, knowledge and concepts to enable children to tackle real problems which leads to designing and making purposeful products. We aim to link work with other subjects such as science, literacy, art, mathematics and computing by giving them opportunities to:
Apply methods of calculation and measurement to real life situations
Write plans, instructions, rationales and evaluations
Articulate ideas, compare and contrast their views with others
Discuss views and clarify design ideas
Use a range of increasingly technical vocabulary
Apply scientific knowledge to designs and inventions
Use a range of resources including computer design

We believe that a high-quality Design and Technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, and well-being of the whole world.
